Tired

Tired because...

My dad called last night at 12:30 and woke me up leaving a message on the phone. Something about baby, edward, 11:45... something something... to say the least the rest of my night was a little weird. Kept having strange dreams and waking up for the next 5 hours. I got up at 5:30 to go for a run, but first checked my e-mail and re-listened to the phone message. Yep, baby Edward born 11:45 last night, 7 lbs, 2.5 oz. Apparently the birth went well, but I haven't gotten any other details (I've tried my dad's home and cell phone this morning, but haven't been able to get a hold of him. Perhaps I'll try wes' cell phone too.). So yes. I'm officially now an Aunt :)

Not much else has been happening around here. Thanksgiving we went to AFs mums on Saturday and then carried on to my dad's that night. Sunday I dropped AF off at the train station and went to stay with my sis. My BIL works in downtown TO. His commute into work is 1.5-2 hours and he has to take via so he can't get back home at certain times due to the horrible train schedule. I was on baby duty last week working in Sarah's basement and ready to drive her to the hospital at a moments notice (not to mention doctors and dentists appointments!). Obviously my hospital driving services were not required.

Saturday night C-dub and CT came up for Oktoberfest. A grand time was had by all but we sure did miss not having nej around to liven up the party ;) The rest of the weekend was spent preparing for company and cleaning up from company. Sunday afternoon I did do a bit of work.

This week is really busy since I'm trying to get my lab work done, but I don't know how long it is going to take. Hopefully I'll be done everything by noon on Friday which would mean I could head down to visit my sister in the afternoon and come back here at night. I'm sure I'll figure out something :)

Montreal Calling

Not too long ago after the last federal election, I made a post in my blog stating that I was joining the federal liberal party to help rebuild it and reshape it to it's former scandal free self.

As the months followed and the potential leadership candidates came forth, I wasn't too happy with the candidates who were throwing there hats into the ring. Well, that was, until Gerrard Kennedy entered the race. I have met with this man before, and have heard him talk of a few occasions through my dad's involvement with the provincial liberals, and this was a man I could support. The more I learned about him, the more I liked what he had to say. So I was looking around for ways that I could help out his campaign to become the leader of the liberal party.

After talking to my dad about it, I decided to put my name forward as a Kennedy Delegate for the leadership convention in December in Montreal. Last weekend, when all liberal party members in canada participated in the first ballot of the leadership race, hundreds, if not thousands of party members in the Prince Edward Hasting Riding went to the voting station and voted for the leadership candidate they wanted, and the delegates they wished to represent their riding at the leadership convention. Each riding gets 14 delegates, and the breakdown goes by the first ballot vote.

Kennedy garnered 21% of the vote in my riding, and 21%*14 delegates = 3 delegates. My dad sent me an e-mail on Sunday morning informing me that I was chosen as one of the 3 Kennedy Delegates for our riding, apparently beating out some big wigs in local government. So Montreal, get ready for The Jones to take over at the beginning of December. Now all I have to do is read up on the other candidates since I'll have to vote for someone else if Kennedy gets dropped (each round of voting the candidate to recieve the lowest percent of the vote is removed until one candidate has 50+1% of the vote. I'm thinking that I'll go with either who Kennedy would support or going with the breakdown of my riding to keep with the riding wishes (6 ignatieff, 4 rae, 3 Kennedy, 1 Dion - which would indicate ignatieff).

You Are 26 Years Old

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

Looks like they got the right age group for me :) 26 in 1.5 months.

Can I go back to bed now???

I'm tired. Last night I got to bed at a decent time hoping to wake up early and go for a run. AF was awake at 4:30 to get a glass of water and I woke up then, fell back asleep for a bit but then the thunderstorm (crazy wicked intense thunderstorm) started and continued for about an hour. needless to say I didn't get up to run (getting hit by lightning and running in the pouring rain is not my idea of fun), but I've pretty much been awake since 4:30 now. Ugh. Between 5:30 and 6 the power went out twice, so I was out of bed twice during that time resetting the clock and alarm so that if we fell asleep we would still wake up. Not cool.

So Update? My weekend sucked, it was completely eaten up by moving and stuff, by the time sunday night rolled around I needed a vacation from my weekend. Friday we got almost everything out of my apartment and into AFs or storage, with just a few things leftover and started the unpacking. Saturday we went back to my old place to clean up and hand in the keys and get the few remaining things. then it was back to AFs (our?) place for putting furniture together, setting up our network and more fun unpacking. Sunday? You guessed it, more furniture assembly, unpacking and getting settled in. Most everything this done now though, so we can relax a bit in the evenings (mostly just need to clean up the place now.

Last week there was a career fair and QC and I went to it to check out what was going on. I handed out my resume to a couple of booths (unfortunately didn't get to the one that I really wanted to) but did get to talk to quite a few people in the industry. So Friday afternoon during unpacking I got a call from "Groundwater Modelling Company" and they wanted to interview me (already???) so yesterday I went in to have and interview with GMC and I'm supposed to contact them again when I start seriously searching for a job. Pretty crazy that it happened so quickly! Not sure that I want to work there, but it would be great experience to get for a couple of years.
