Busy trip to B-ville

So my weekend was very busy, but very nice.

I went to Toronto on Friday afternoon and got a new duffle bag from MEC (to transport my ski boots out west with me!) and then met my bro-in-law at his work to commute home with him. We ran out of gas about 15 km from his and S's house and we had to get S to come and rescue us off the side of the road. The gas light was broken and didn't come on, so we were pretty much screwed. I spent friday night at their house in P.Hope and went shopping with S in the morning. I got a new sweater to replace the one that got ruined in the Jenny-hook-in-nose incident and a new skirt to wear when I have to be professional.

We then went to b-ville for a big lunch (in our family, that would have been the "dinner" meal of the day). I got to meet the lady my dad has started seeing. At first I was pretty much determined to not like her since she isn't my mum, but she didn't try to be, and she was pretty nice. D and Maddy and I went into town in the afternoon to run a few errands and what not, and then just spent the rest of the day relaxing at my house, went in the hot tub and watched Shrek 2 (I noticed more little funny things!)

Sunday I went for a run (7ks perscribed by the running room clinic) and drove back to w/loo. On the way back, I stopped at ikea and bought some energy efficient light bulbs. I replaced the ones in the light that I use the most, and am now only using 22W instead of 120W. A little bit better... it kind of has a bit of a blue quality to the light which is kind of annoying, but I figure I can live with it, if it is better for the environment. Oh, and I turned down my thermostat to 65 when I left on Friday and when I got home it was 74!!!!! Gotta love the sun and near-zero temperatures!!!

So that brings me to today, monday, back at school. Looks like I am going to be here pretty late today, I might be heading home around lunch to go and work from home this afternoon, and sneak off to do some grocery shopping or laundry during then to make better use of my time.

Good luck Burger and GP1!!!!

I'm thinking of you this morning. I hope the needle anesthetic works wonderfully and that she pulls through no problem!

Man, is it ever cold out there. I went to the Gym this morning. I don't run when it is colder than -20, well, it was -26 **EDIT - Weather station says it was actually -32.3 :O ** this morning so that meant bundling up and facing the cold walking. When I walk, I don't haave time to get ready in the morning so I also have to truck all my stuff to the gym with me so that I can get ready there. Anywho, leaving my apt. at 6:05 am would get me to the gym around 6:25. Man, by the time I got to columbia street I was sooooooo cold! I couldn't feel my legs! and my toes were starting to go. I ended up getting to the gym in time, without any digits falling off, so I guess that is a feat!!! I am now at school trying to warm up from my 10 minute walk to school from the gym. Ack! I'm off to the C&D to get something warm to heat me up!

Other than that, I went to the David Suzuki thing last night. It was pretty good, I was kind of annoyed that he wasn't talking too much about the 1-tonne challenge and how to reduce greenhouse gases, but he was very interesting to listen too. I noticed about halfway through that my Ex was there, it is kind of odd that out of a group of probably close to 400 I would be able to pick him out of the crowd... very weird.

Okay, that is it, I am off to eat my breakfast. I am STARVING!!!

Fortran going a little better

Now I just have to decipher someone elses Fortran code and I'm off to the races. I really can't stand this part. I have to figure out what KM (not the boy from the fall) was doing and why. It doesn't really help that I don't fully understand the solving method. Something about Picards Method with a Thomas solver???? Anyone know what that means?

Last night we had a "Town Hall meeting" for our apartment meeting. It was good to have forum with the powers that be to tell them what we aren't happy about so that someone will come and fix the problems. So I brought up the fact that I have had a whole in my apartment wall for the full 5 months that I have been living here. I finally got the impression that it would be fixed soon, so I am super happy about that.

And last nights amazing race... Lori and Bolo Gone. They were amusing, so that was a little sad, but I'm happy that Kris and John won the stage. The Season Finale is on February 8th... will they take 4 teams into the final again??? if so that means next week is non-elimination. At this point I am definitely chearing for Kris and John, they are the only team (left) that I have liked the entire time...

St. Paul's Resnet = CRAP!!!

So my internet went down again on Saturday was fixed yesterday morning and went down last night sometime around dinner time. double grrr! The lady in the business office was convinced it was my computer until we talked it through. if it goes down again, it definitely isn't my computer.

So This weekend... Friday night I went grocery shopping and had a great night just relaxing. On Saturday I just couldn't motivate myself to do school work, so I read a lot and did my laundry. On Saturday night, braved the cold and snow to walk over to MK's for his party. It was pretty good. Burger was a little upset that there weren't that many people because of the weather, it was actually good for me, I didn't feel as overwhelmed with people I didn't know!

Sunday my dad came up and took me out for lunch and we went to my aunt and uncles in the afternoon. In the evening I did my marking (now that is annoying!) and that was it. My two days of freedom were over and I had to go back to school.

Yesterday was an annoying day. I couldn't get my Fortran to compile yesterday. Don't know how to use the compiler. I'm trying to find my supervisor today so that he can show me how it is done. If I find him in the morning I will likely go home and work from there for the rest of the day. I think I have finally read enough of the boring Fortran book to be able understand what I do, I just can't compile my code :(

Okay, so that is my boring post for the morning of January 25th, stay tuned tomorrow for more thrilling details of my life.

Hmmm... Can't remember what I was going to blog about...

I had something to write earlier. Guess I just forgot!

How about that weather eh? pretty crazy out there! I wish it would just heat up already.

School is busy as per usual. Trying to get ready for my meeting with the Prof tomorrow. I'm afraid he is going to be disappointed with me for not being further along on my paper. Oh well, I guess that happens. Other than that, I think I have my 4th question figured out for 774, so that is good. I just need to check with MK and burger to see if they have similar answers.

Okay, that is all for know. Later kids.

Flights booked! yay!

So my itenary is finalized, I am going to Edmonton, Vancouver, and Whistler. Yay!

Friday - Fly T. to Edmonton
Sunday- Fly Edmonton to Vancouver
Nest Sunday- Fly Vancouver to T.

Yay! I'm pretty excited as you can tell. NC., KB., AL., and Waltons, here I come!

Okay, so that is my exciting news from yesterday. That and I have the first 1.5 questions done from my assignment. Hopefully the reamaining 2.5 until the programing begins won't be that bad!

Oh yeah, and I was watching the Amazing Race last night. I can't exclain enough how glad I am that Jon and Victoria are gone. They are so abusive towards each other, they annoy me to no ends. And what was it with the french accent? When they were in Nice, they were talking to their cab driver in english with a french accent. As if that would make the driver understand better???? If anything I think the driver would be annoyed and thinking that they were making fun of him. What idiots! My favorite team is still definitely Kris and John (the long distance couple). They never fight, even when they make mistakes! they rock!

Funk be gone!

Good News Number 1)
My internet is back up! yay! I called the business office yesterday, and they sorted it out. Apparently the server detected another IP address coming from my outlet so I was cut-off. I don't know how this happened, kind of odd really, there was no one else in my apartment, and I can guarantee that I am the only computer that has ever hooked up to that connection. Oh well, the problem is fixed, I'm not going to worry about the little details.

Good News Number 2)
I'm booking my flights out west today at like 12:30. Hopefully it won't be that busy, but with the -30 windchill, there may be a lot of people looking into south vacations!!! (I'm the crazy one going to edmonton :) and BC :))

Good News Number 3)
I no longer have to be a prisoner in my own apartment in the cold :) yep, that is correct :) my Dad is lending me the car from the end of January to the beginning of March. I was trying to figure out how to get me and my skis to the airport for my trip since the airporter is v. stupid. This was the solution. Yay! I am totally happy about this one. This also means that 95% chance I will be able to partake in the exaggerators b-day celebrations - BTW JC, reading week is a week later than I thought so I will be around for your birthday and will hopefully be able to do whatever :)

Good News Number 4)
Well, can't really think of anything else, I'm just really psyched about reasons 1-3 :)

Home internet down :(

Yep, went down on Saturday night. I was just settling in for an online chat with EW too! (No worries EW, I wasn't trying to ditch you!) Grrrr...

I really did next to nothing this weekend. I miss having a car a lot. I feel like I have absolutely no freedom. I did go to see In Good Company on Sat. night with Burger, EK, QC and her boyf. It was pretty good. On Sunday I went for a run with EK, and that is it. My life is sooooo boring right now!

I seriously need some excitement in my life.

Crazy weather, crazy busy!

Yesterday morning I went for a run, super nice, it was 11C and not raining. Then it poured all day and started raining over night, and then this morning EK and I went for a run, and it was horrible out! Slippery, snowy, and VERY blustery. Note for the non runners, running into the wind on slippery surfaces sucks!

So yesterday I went to this presentation for earth science students. It was really interesting about pharmecutical and virus tansport in groundwater. It was kind of nice to have the re-affirmation that I really like the stuff I am doing. I think I need that every once in a while when you get bogged down with modelling equations and have to plug through the really hard stuff. Last night EK and I went to the Running Room to sign up for the half marathon clinic. I fully expect to know 75% of the stuff they tell me, but I will have something to be held accountable too, and it won't be as easy to not train properly. I also need a new pair of shoes, they had to order them in so they won't be in for a few days. I guess it is time to get my newish mizuno's dirty :( (My tendonitis in my lower legs is starting to act up again. This usually means hands down, time for new shoes)

So that brings us to today. This morning was spent on 774 (ack!) and more work this afternoon. I'm getting into the habit of not really taking a lunch break, but today I have taken a whole 30 minutes off. Shocking, I know. I have to sign off here and go and read fun stuff on the divergence theorem. YAY!

(Oh yeah, we are going to see In Good Company tomorrow. I am super excited about that!)

Crazy Freezing Rain!

So I woke up this morning to go for a run with EK and the ground was covered with a thin sheet of ice. A lot of it was okay to walk on, but not all. Since it was still dark out, we decided we should probably not go for a run and instead went back inside. I'm going to the gym later on, I'll just get there early and do cardio on one of the machines as well. I believe the freezing rain is supposed to change to regular rain before too long. (mind you it isn't really doing anything outside right now...)

So I used my extra time this morning to come into school early. I think I'm going to go read some of this thesis that I am supposed to be modelling. At 8:30 we are meeting to go over notes for one of our classes, so I really don't have that much time. I HATE it when that happens!!!

later kids.

Nothing new to report

Really, nothing. I went to the gym yesterday and came home. Watched 24, went to bed. Not sure if I am going to watch 24 this season or not, I'm not sure I agree with it politically or not. I am just noticing all the Fox politics more than usual.

As for school work. I'm spending the morning going over the notes for 774. A little confusing, but hopefully will get a little better ???!??!

Sorry for not updating!

anyone who is worrying about Jenny! She is back to her normal self, and she actually was by Friday night. I would say that I think she has forgotten the whole ordeal, but she is sneezing a lot more than normal, so I think her nose might still be a little irratated.

Friday night C-dub came up and we went out dancing to the Dog. Well, we intended to go dancing, but the music was crappy so we mostly just stood around and danced to a few good songs. EK came too. We were just about to leave and try our luck elsewhere when a bunch of the guys for C-dubs class showed up, so we ended up staying until 12:30 or so.

Saturday the Exagerator and MM came up for a day of Laziness and LOTR movie watching, man that was hard! I could barely stay awake in the last one - why is it that the lazier you are, the more you want to sleep? at least that is how it is for me.

Sunday we went out for breakfast and I cleaned my kitchen. I also watched a tape that burger had given me like 4 months ago on doping in sports, now I can finally give it back to her!!! Later, I went for a run with EK, just kind of easing back into activity and then made myself some Nutburgers for dinner (yum!). This morning has been busy. The prof for the class I'm CA-ing is going to go ahead and try to get it bumped up to a TA, so it will be nice to have a little extra $$!

Scary Morning..

So I woke up this morning at 5:55 to the sound of my alarm going off. Jenny (cat) recognizes the alarm as being when I get up in the morning, so she came in for her early morning cuddle. I stayed in bed for about 10 minutes, but I had to get up since EK and I were going to go for a run. So I get out of bed and Jenny followed me around to the phone so I could call and make sure that EK was out of bed. I got the phone off the hook and then this terrible wailing starts. Jenny is stuck somehow to the sweater (My red one that kind of looks like a jacket) on the back of my chair. I thought maybe her nail or tooth was stuck in it, but to my horror, I realized one of the hooks (it is held together with hooks and eyes) is stuck in her nose. I frantically searched for the nearest sisscors, and cut off the hook from the sweater, but by that time, it was lodged in there pretty well.

I called EK and she came down and we decided to call the emergency Vet clinic and they said we should come in as soon as possible. So 2 hours, $45 in cab rides, $45 in medication, and $200 in Vet fees, we are back home, (sans hook or sweater - I ruined it trying to cut out the hook). I am pretty traumatized. I am so glad that EK was there with me, I was freaking out, and she was able to calm me down a lot. I think I'm going to head into school for a bit this morning, but I'll be back home for an early lunch to get my stuff for the gym and to give Jenny her antibiotic. I hope she is okay!!!

Feeling sluggish

I got home last night and read for three hours. I'm pretty much done one thesis and have one more to go. And then onto the real work. When C-dub and the exagerator leave on Sunday, I think I'm going to come into school and get cracking on this fortran business. I guess I'll wait and see whether I'm able to work from home or not. I find it hard to do real work there now days. I can read no problem, but I have to have a major deadline in the near future to do work from home.

I guess I have a big deadline in about 5-6 weeks, but it doesn't seem that bad right now because that seems so far away, but I have to do a LOT of work on my thesis between now and then. Hopefully fortran is relatively easy to pick up!!!

So today I got up early to go running with EK. I felt like crap the entire way, I don't know whether it was the wind, the lack of running over the holidays or doing weights last night, but lets just say this, It wasn't pretty.

Okay, I should get cracking on real work... later!

Computer problems fixed...

Kevin (the computer dude) told me to do a thing, and it worked, so yay!

My TA started today. The class is going to be a LOT easier than it was when I took it last year, kind of makes me jealous. looks like they will have about half the work. Oh well, I guess that happens. Dr. M is going to try and get it switched to a TA, which means more hours, but also more pay.

I'm meeting with the supervisor today so that I can get started ASAP on my journal article. I only have another 6 weeks or so before it is due (and a whole LOT of work to do still!!!)

Grrrr... stupid computers

Well, my computer at school isn't doing anything I wanted it to do. I actually had to use burgers computer to write e-mails, and I couldn't post. I think something is screwed up with the security settings.

Oh well.

I'm at home this afternoon. I just have reading to do, so there isn't any need for me to stay at school.

Nothing new to report really, just annoyed with my computer account at school. I'll get it sorted out tomorrow.

Resolutions?

Sounds as if most people are posting theres. I'll have to think of a couple I guess.

New Year's Eve came and went. I didn't even stay up till midnight in all honesty. I had What Not to Wear on most of the day, but I didn't watch it all the time. I ended up in bed around 11. As my Grandma used to say "It'll come whether I stay up to welcome it or not". Ah, the wisdom of the elderly :)

Saturday and Sunday I was recovering from going back to the gym on Friday for weights. I seriously couldn't walk for a couple of days, but it is feeling better today. I'll take the weights a little bit easier today and make sure I have some protein shortly after my workout.

So resolutions???
#1 Run a marathon before Nov. 25th (my 25th birthday) - hopefully New York, but may not get it in the lottery
#2 Keep a food diary and try not to eat as much crap, and
#3 Love my body. I think I'll have to lose a bit of weight to really be able to do this, but if a) I'm running a marathon and b) keeping a food diary to keep my food in check, this one shouldn't be too hard (fingers crossed!)

Last year, I had three resolutions, and I managed to keep one for the most part. Eat at Restaurants at most 2 times a week. There were maybe two or three weeks that I broke this one, but that was for good things, like when EW and I went to Gaspe, obviously when you are in a car for that long, you are going to eat at a few restaurants.

That is it from me today. I'm going to spend the morning at the gym. Do a body flow class, and my weights, and some cardio. Should be *fun*.
