So we just went to the 4th year project presentations... one group (M was their supervisor) was doing ground water column experiments of bacteria removal. So they had their experiment set up. they did their columns horizontally to "mimic groundwater flow" so guess what people? the best way to mimic gw flow is with an upflow column. In research you ALWAYS use upflow, it is pretty basic. You get a constant head situation and ensure that the column is fully saturated due to the effects of gravity. Read a paper (any paper) on column experiments. It is going to be upflow.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... that is what you get when a DW person supervises a GW group.

I sure did... M wasn't there though. so I didn't get any glares... I think everyone asking them questions pointed out fatal errors in their experimentation!!
